Mary Baker and her husband, Randy, have lived in Clayton County for 20 years. They have a son at Jonesboro High School and a daughter that graduated from the International Baccalaureate program at Lovejoy High School and now attends Berry College.

Ms. Baker attended college in Oregon and was a Rotary Exchange Student to Chihuahua, Mexico. She holds a CDA in Early Childhood Development and has taught preschool at the Children's Learning Center at First Baptist Church Jonesboro since 2002. Over the years, Mary has volunteered her time at Mt. Zion & Jackson Elementary, Roberts Middle, Lovejoy and Jonesboro High Schools.

Before serving on the Board, Ms. Baker was a member of the school councilsof Mt. Zion Elementary and Roberts Middle. She served 4 years on the Citizens Budget Committee along with participating in Superintendent's Advisory Council.Knowing that other parents could not attend Board meetings as she did, she worked to have Board meetings televised on Channel 24, giving access to the community. She submitted the name for Sequoyah Middle School to honor a man who was a true educator of his people.

Ms. Baker's involvement in the community includes serving as Chairman of the Clayton County Coalition for Quality Education. A group that held community information forums including a forum with then Secretary of State, Kathy Cox. She also worked with the Boys and Girls Task Force.

While on the Board, Ms. Baker has strived to work in a positive and professional matter. One of her happiest moments was when CCPS received back its Accreditation Free & Clear in May 2011. She continues to promote the great things done by the students and staff of our schools. During these hard economic times, Ms. Baker has fought to keep Arts, Music, Career and Technology classes for thestudents.

It has always been her personal belief that in order to fix a problem, you have to be part of the solution. You may ask why she does this. Her answer is "because There isn't Anything More Important Than Our Children."
