What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. More than 22,000 U.S. schools are implementing PBIS and saving countless instructional hours otherwise lost to discipline. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning.
PBIS schools apply a multi-tiered approach to prevention, using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted and individualized interventions and supports to improve school climate for all students. PBIS COACHES CORNER
Coaches support their school-based teams by guiding the implementation process, ensuring the
fidelity of PBIS implementation, and acting as liaisons between the PBIS District Coordinator and the
school-based PBIS Team.
The PBIS Coach will also
Ensure the team is meeting regularly
Ensure in-depth record keeping (i.e., product book/Livebinder)
Help identify team member roles and ensure equal distribution of roles and responsibilities within the team
Ensure the team is using data for decision making
Facilitate the multi-tiered systems of support process for behavior with school teams
Provide and participate in PBIS trainings and team meetings
ccPS PBIS DISTRICT LEADERSHIP team
The PBIS District Leadership Team (DLT) supports the district and schools' implementation
of a Comprehensive Integrated Tiered Model of Prevention. Durable and adaptable school-
wide PBIS in a school requires systemic support that extends beyond an individual school.
It is important to organize multiple schools (e.g., cluster, complex, district, county, state) so
that a common vision, language, and experience are established. This approach allows
districts and states to improve the efficiency of resource use, implementation efforts, and
organizational management.
An expanded infrastructure also enhances the district and state level support (e.g., policy,
resources, competence) and provides a supportive context for implementation at the local
level. Resources are available here to support District Leadership Team meetings,
evaluation, planning, and data analysis.
