  1. WHY IS CCPS REBALANCING ENROLLMENT NOW?
    CCPS has experienced an upward attendance trend in recent years that is resulting in overcrowding of certain schools.  The goal is to balance enrollment so that no school is over capacity.

  2. WHAT IS THE EXTENT OF ENROLLMENT BALANCING AT THIS TIME?
    Three selected schools will have attendance zones redrawn at this time.  These schools are Morrow HS, N Clayton HS, and King ES.  Some feeder schools may also be impacted.

  3. WHY WERE THESE SCHOOLS CHOSEN?
    Morrow HS and King ES are currently experiencing the most acute overcrowding.  N Clayton HS has significant available capacity.

  4. WILL THERE BE FUTURE ENROLLMENT BALANCING?  IF SO, WHEN?
    We anticipate that attendance zones for other schools will need to be redrawn in the future to achieve balanced enrollment as populations change.  It is not possible at this time to provide a certain timeline for future enrollment rebalancing activity.  The timing will depend on the attendance changes (increase or decrease) affecting given schools.

  5. WHEN WILL THE CURRENT REDISTRICTING BECOME EFFECTIVE?
    Changes to the attendance zones in the schools undergoing enrollment balancing now will become effective with the start of the 2017 - 2018 school year.

  6. CAN MY CHILD STAY AT HIS/HER PRESENT SCHOOL UNTIL HE/SHE COMPLETES THE FINAL GRADE LEVEL AT THAT SCHOOL?

  7. WILL TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED ACCORDING TO CHANGED ATTENDANCE ZONES?
    Bus transportation routing will be adjusted to serve new attendance zones.

  8. CAN I APPEAL MY CHILD’S NEW ATTENDANCE ZONE DECISION?
    There is no appeal process.

  9. WHY WERE THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS NOT CONSIDERED WITH THE INITIAL PHASE?
    The middle school are not over or under capacity, no changes need to be addressed at this time.

  10. WHY WAS EAST CLAYTON ELEMENTARY AND SMITH ELEMENTARY REMOVED FROM PHASE I OF THE ENROLLMENT BALANCING PROJECT?
    To avoid impacting students more than once, it was decided to not include East Clayton Elementary School in Phase I and wait until after its new school constructed is completed. 

  11. WILL THE ENROLLMENT BALANCING PROJECT AFFECT SPECIAL PERMISSIONS?
    If a student currently has approved special permission to any school, the student is allowed to remain at that school through the highest grade, with the exception of magnet schools.   12. WILL THE STUDENTS HAVE TO RE-ENROLL AT THE NEW SCHOOL?
    Students will not have to re-enroll as a new student at the newly assigned school. The enrollment process will be completed electronically.

  13. WHO VOTES ON ENROLLMENT BALANCING? WHY?
    The Board of Education has oversight and votes on enrollment balancing or redistricting recommendations impacting attendance boundaries. This must occur according to School Board Policy ABB.   14. WILL TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED TO ALL RECOMMENDED MOVES?
