According to local weather reports, the air quality index (AQI) is reported as “Code Yellow” in some parts of the Atlanta Metro area today, November 17, 2016. The air quality is acceptable; however, the AQI range may pose a moderate health concern for some individuals. As a result of recent reports, the school district will continue to restrict outdoor activities until further notice. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to monitor the air quality index categories and daily weather forecast conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and school students.

--------

In the best interest of our students and employees, as a precaution to the recent reports of the air quality index reported as “Code Red” in some parts of the Atlanta region due to the forest fires in North Georgia and Tennessee, the school district has limited outdoor activities while dangerous conditions exist.

As the quality of air impacts the health, environment and economy of our region, it is our goal to ensure that the staff and students in our school district, particularly with respiratory illnesses and asthma are safeguarded.  We will continue to monitor the air quality index (AQI) by government agencies and rely on official weather reports to determine when open-air activities should resume.  We appreciate your understanding as we limit outdoor access that could cause severe adverse health effects.

Sincerely,

Clayton County Public Schools
