Biographical Information

Dr. Morcease J. Beasley was appointed by the Clayton County Board of Education on May 8, 2017, to serve as Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools.  Throughout his career, he has held numerous positions at every level of public school education beginning as a high school Mathematics teacher; assistant principal; high school principal; Executive Director for Curriculum, Instruction, Professional Learning & Federal Programs. He also held the positions of Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & School Leadership. Prior to his appointment to serve as Superintendent, Dr. Beasley was Clayton County Public Schools’ Chief School Improvement Officer.

With over 28 years of professional experience in Alabama, Georgia and Texas, Dr. Beasley is a renowned transformational leader with proven success in the areas of organizational and instructional leadership, fiscal and personnel management, as well as curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning in both large urban and suburban school districts. As Superintendent, he leads one of the top 100 largest school districts in the nation and the fifth-largest school system in the state of Georgia with nearly 53,000 diverse students, 7,300 employees, and 65 learning sites and educational programs. 

As a nationally known innovative leader and instructor, he has led Clayton County Public Schools to higher levels of performance by, but not limited to; Increasing the district's overall graduation rate by nearly five percent, with six of the district's traditional high schools outpacing the state's graduation rate; Implementing strategies to strengthen the district’s general fund balance and stabilize district spending; Expanded the district’s School Choice, Advanced Placement, C.T.A.E., Dual Enrollment and Dual Language Program options; Reestablished the Clayton County Public Schools Foundation Inc. to support students and employees; Accelerated the Implementation of the district’s 1:1 technology initiative “Extending Learning Beyond the Classroom,” Improved district infrastructure through the use of S.P.L.O.S.T. funds; and Expanded access to Pre-K and legitimizing a variety of partnerships with local and corporate businesses, colleges and universities and organizations to improve the educational experience of all students.

Through his commitment to the academic advancement of children and instructional leadership, Dr. Beasley has received notable accolades and multiple recognitions by numerous organizations. These honors include the 2021 Cognia Values-Driven Award, 2021 Georgia Greater Black Chamber of Commerce Superintendent of the Year Award, 2021 MIXX106 Radio Superintendent of the Year Award, 2020 Clayton County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award, and the Samford University’s Centennial Life-Long Learning Award. Additionally, he was selected as DeKalb’s Administrator of the Year by the DeKalb School Counselors Association and is a two-time recipient of the distinguished Golden Apple Outstanding Administrator Award by Samford University. 

Dr. Beasley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics Education from Samford University located in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, he holds an Educational Specialist as well as a Doctorate degree in Education with an emphasis on Educational Leadership from Samford University. Dr. Beasley has also completed Harvard University’s Public Educational Leadership Program.

Personally, Dr. Beasley has a devout love for his family and ministry and a passion for civil as well as social justice. He also enjoys the arts, traveling, reading, writing, cooking, and entertaining family and friends.
