In accordance with Georgia State law O.C.G.A. 20-2-753, a student must be provided with the opportunity to participate in a student disciplinary hearing when the principal recommends a suspension or expulsion of longer than ten days.
DEFINITIONS
Expulsion- exclusion of a student from a public school beyond the current quarter or semester.
Short-Term Suspension- the short term removal of a student from a public school for ten days or less.
Long-term Suspension- the long term removal of a student from a public school for more than ten days but not beyond the current quarter or semester.
Alternative Education Program- a program intended to meet the educational needs of a student who is suspended from the regular classroom, as well as a student who is eligible to remain in his/her regular classroom but is more likely to succeed in a non-traditional setting.
Transfers/Withdrawals- transfers within Clayton County Schools and/or withdrawals from Clayton County Public Schools due to disciplinary reasons are not contemplated in the behavior code and cannot be considered for Tribunal recommendations or decisions.
