Clayton County Public Schools is proud to announce that March 6-12, 2022 is National School Social Work Week. The theme for National School Social Work Week 2022 is, “Time to Shine”. School Social Workers shine brightly for their students, families, and school communities. Shining Hope. Shining Understanding. Shining Respect.
School Social Workers are advocates who serve students and help them to achieve academic success as linkages to home, school, and community. In order to reach this goal, School Social Workers provide support services to help remove barriers that prevent student success.
We remove barriers to learning by:
- Utilizing interventions to help improve school attendance, behavior, and academic achievement
- Mobilizing family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program
- Alleviating stress by connecting students, family, and school staff by providing appropriate interventions
- Crisis intervention
- Assessing students with mental health concerns
- Identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect
- Conducting home visits
- Enhancing the professional capacity of school personnel
- Assisting in implementing multi-tiered supports
- Creating staff development and professional learning opportunities
- Providing case management for students and families
