As we come to the close of the 2022-2023 school year, Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) is placing an emphasis on the safety for our students, staff, and visitors. While the Clayton County School Police will continue to have a visible presence at our 60-plus campuses and facilities, additional layers of security are being added.

“I am totally focused on continuing the process of cultivating a school safety culture and a positive working environment as we prepare for the final days of school,” said Dr. Anthony W. Smith, CCPS Interim Superintendent of Schools. “While this is a time of celebration for our candidates for graduation and promotion, we expect visitors at special events to conduct themselves in accordance with the special nature of each event that recognizes the amazing accomplishments of all Clayton County’s scholars.”

“We have added several Campus Security Officers (CSOs) to our existing force,” Dr. Smith added. “These officers will be paired with recently purchased golf carts to patrol and secure the exterior of each campus, allowing our assigned School Resource Officers (SROs) and CSOs to concentrate their attention on the interior of their school.”

During the next five weeks, filled with testing and special end of year events, individuals visiting a CCPS school may be approached by one of the district’s security personnel. “Visitors to our schools at this time of year should have a reason to be at that location and be ready to explain their presence,” Dr. Smith said.

CCPS will continue its standard protocol of unannounced searches and expanded use of scanning technology. District leaders will make more frequent on-site visits to assigned schools to ensure that students are where they’re supposed to be and that school halls are clear to provide an appropriate -- and safe -- learning environment for testing and instruction.

CCPS stakeholders should also witness enhanced safety measures during 2023 Operation Graduation activities at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Wednesday through Friday, May 24-26, 2023 as the district continues to focus on the safety and security for CCPS students and their families, staff, and communities.
