The CCPS Document Based Question initiative supports the district focus on literacy across the curriculum and critical thinking. Through DBQs, students are exposed to the disciplinary literacy skills that will help them to become deep thinkers and effective communicators. The addition of Document Based Questions to the Social Studies curriculum allows students to read Social Studies texts more frequently and more deeply to increase comprehension and strengthens students’ analysis, synthesis skills by requiring them to use textual evidence to support main points.
