A sincere servant leader in the field of Education, whose purpose has been driven by the quote, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults (Frederick Douglass),” Dr. Wakea N. Brown, is passionate about enhancing the lives of children, youth, families, and communities, especially the underrepresented.

For nearly twenty-seven years, she has served in a wide array of capacities. Her journey in Education began in the Savannah Chatham County School District (Ga), where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Isle of Hope Elementary School and was nominated as “Teacher of the Year,” for the 1999-2000 School Year, and served as a 3rd and 4th grade Early Intervention Program Teacher at Pulaski Elementary School, where she was nominated as a “Disney Teacher Award,” recipient. In 2003, Dr. Brown joined the Clayton County School District (Ga), and for the next four years, she inspired, nurtured, and educated students at Hawthorne Elementary School, where she was named “Teacher of the Year,” for the 2006-2007 School Year.

After serving as an Elementary School Educator for ten years, Wakea capably served for four years as a “Teacher Development Specialist,” where she coached, trained, and worked with emerging educators in the district’s “Teacher Alternative Preparation Program,” and served one year as a District Level “Instructional Facilitator.” Dr. Brown is also honored to have served as an Assistant Principal for four years at Eddie White K-8 Academy. Upon the completion of her assignment at “EWA,” she served as the district’s “Coordinator for Performance Management,” where she worked with state department with the Teacher and Leader Keys Effectiveness System, as well as managed the performance of all other Clayton County Public Schools Employees.

In 1 year, Dr. Brown was appointed as Principal of The, Tara Elementary School, which she describes as her most rewarding, impactful, and beloved position on her career journey thus far. She is proud and honored to have led the “Mustang Family,” for seven years, where a “Culture of Caring,” and motto of “All In,” were exemplified daily and scholars were taught to live local, think global and reach their maximum potential.

The 2007 Clayton County Public Schools “Teacher Of the Year,” 2007 NAACP “Trailblazer Award,” recipient and 2022 Clayton County Public Schools “Principal of the Year,” finalist, is also an educational consultant and speaker, who has presented in school districts and conferences across the nation such as, “Muscogee County Schools,” “Savannah-Chatham County Schools,” “Rockdale County Schools,” (Ga), “Pinellas County Schools,” (FL), “Kentucky Behavioral Institute (Content Development),” and (National Association for Alternative Certification), Chicago, Illinois, to name a few.

She is a member of Open Word Christian Ministries, where she leads and serves as member of the W3 - Women’s Ministry. Through education and empowerment, she aspires to be a vessel of love, leadership, and light, to keep the faith regardless of the circumstances, and to open the minds of scholars and educators to excel within a creative process of learning and uplift. She is very happily married to her husband Keith L. Brown, who is a Professional Speaker, Consultant, Coach, Trainer, and Speech writer. They have one wonderful, resourceful son, Keon.
