The Grounds Department conducts lawn care maintenance on the 1,618 acres owned by Clayton County Public Schools.
The maintenance includes mowing, edging, trimming trees and shrubs, and blowing debris from sidewalks and curbs. The department conducts inspections and repairs on all school playgrounds, provides service and repair to over 600 pieces of small engine equipment and heavy equipment, implements erosion control measures, clears rainwater retention ponds, conducts annual aeration and fertilization of all district campuses, and oversees the repair of all parking lots.
The Grounds Department has 1 supervisor, 3 master technicians, 6 technicians, and 16 apprentices.
