Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS), its leadership, employees, and students express our sincere condolences to the families of all impacted by the fatal domestic disturbance that occurred within our community on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. As a former student and 2012 graduate of Jonesboro High School, we are immensely saddened by the loss of officer Henry Laxson and offer his family, as well as loved ones the support and prayers of the school district as we all grieve the loss of this local hero.

Throughout the ongoing pandemic and individual circumstances we continue to be reminded how precious life truly is and the vital part we all play as a community to protect and value each other. We extend our deepest appreciation to the men and women of the Clayton County Police Department, the Clayton County School Police Department, and all municipal police departments for their work to keep our community safe.

As we continue to recognize the 2021 holiday season, CCPS encourages all stakeholders to take a proactive stance in ensuring their safety and the safety of those around them so that everyone can enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday. We remind parents/guardians and general stakeholders to ensure that all weapons and/or hazardous materials are placed safely in designated areas away from and not accessible to children or loved ones as it is our shared desire to ensure that all families have a holiday season filled with love, joy, and peace.
