In January, Dr. Deatrice “Dee” Haney, Clayton County Board of Education Representative of District Five, partnered with Clayton County Solicitor General Charles Brooks, and various community partners to host a Virtual MLK Day of Nonviolence event! As part of the event, students were encouraged to submit a poem, song, a picture of the artwork, speech, etc. expressing thoughts on ways we can keep our schools and communities safe from gun violence. The theme for the video contest was "Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon." – A quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On February 11, 2022, Dr. Haney, along with Solicitor Brooks visited Babb Middle School to award the student winners with their prizes -- a personalized certificate from the Clayton County Board of Education as well as a gift card from the Office of the Solicitor General! Video contest winners include Aniyah Conway, Hao Nguyen, Julie Chea, Felicity Phan, Brandon Ayala, and Alexa Diaz!

A special report of the award presentation aired on CW69 News as part of the news station's coverage of Black History Month and featured Aniya Conway. Please view the report by clicking on the link below:

On behalf of the Clayton County Public Schools Board of Education, Board Member Dr. Haney, and Superintendent/CEO of Schools, Dr. Morcease J. Beasley, we would like to commend all students who participated in the Virtual MLK Day of Nonviolence event and for being proactive in the solution of positive conflict resolution! We also thank Solicitor Brooks for his continued support in our students’ scholastic achievement as well as involvement in the community as a positive citizen of Clayton County!
