Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) is excited to engage scholars in a marine science research opportunity during the Summer of 2023! Available to select middle and high school students (grades 7th through 11th), participants will be able to engage with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) as part of this exciting exploration and research opportunity.

During this four- to six-week research experience, students will be exposed to a variety of topics related to marine science and climate. The last week of the program includes five days at BIOS. Areas of research include, but are not limited to Nonsuch Island and the Catow bird, Microplastics, Seagrass and Sea Turtles, Coral Restoration, Planting Endemics/how to manage invasive species, and Environmental DNA.

BIOS is an independent U.S. non-profit scientific research and educational organization based in Bermuda. For over 100 years BIOS-based researchers and visiting scientists have worked to explore the ocean and address important local and global environmental issues.

Click here for your child to apply. The application process ends on March 17, 2023. After students complete their online application, the district will use a lottery-based selection process to identify summer participants. Students are required to have a valid passport by May 26, 2023.

We will have several informational meetings for the parents of the selected students. Email questions about this opportunity to summerlearninginfo@clayton.k12.ga.us.
