Clayton County Public Schools (CCPS) is proud to have five schools that were recognized by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) as 2022-2023 Literacy Leaders.  Yesterday, October 2, 2023, Pointe South Elementary School served as the host site to welcome State Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Richard Woods, and other dignitaries, as he presented each of the district's five schools with banners signifying their accomplishments as Literacy Leaders. Clayton County Literacy Leaders include Pointe South Elementary, Harper Elementary, Northcutt Elementary, Kay R. Pace School of the Arts, and West Clayton Elementary schools.

Created in support of the fundamental importance of students' ability to read proficiently by the third grade, GaDOE recognized schools with exceptional achievement or growth in reading. Schools with 90% or more of their third-grade students reading at grade level or above are being recognized for outstanding achievement, and schools with a 15% or higher increase from 2021-22 to 2022-23 are being recognized for outstanding growth. Across the state of Georgia, 155 schools met these qualifications.
